Is bigger better? It can be, when focusing on the big picture of your dreams. As we move through life, there will be peaks and valleys, ebbs and flows. When we know our big-picture vision of living our best life, we can then reframe what we might have taken as failure and instead view it as a stepping stone to our BIG picture.
When people hire me as their positivity coach, they most often want to focus on Finance/Career, Health, or Relationships, and sometimes all three. In the first session, I learn about their dreams and their big picture begins to unfold. Sometimes they don’t quite know what they want, so we return to the basics of how they want to feel. They always want to feel accomplished, loved, and good. Once we focus on that, the bigger dream can begin to surface.
Why is knowing your big picture important? Because knowing your big picture heightens celebrations and lessens sorrows. Each step toward living the life of your dreams is a step toward your big picture, yes, even the ones that seem to be going backward. In 2009 I went on a cruise with Mike Dooley as he delivered his Matrix workshop. Positive Focus had just become a nonprofit earlier in the year and growing PF was my big picture; it was my passion; it was my life. Mike asked me the ‘why’ question. “Why did I want Positive Focus in my life?” My answer was quick and easy, “Because I want to inspire millions to live their best lives while I live mine.” His response was just as quick, “Why limit yourself to doing that just through Positive Focus?” I had an “a-ha” moment and realized that I had tunnel vision about how my work had to be done, and I had limited myself on all the ways it could show up in my life. My big picture wasn’t Positive Focus, it was uplifting and inspiring millions to live their best lives while I live mine. Because of that epiphany, along with my own work, I have had the pleasure of managing events for thought-leaders like Panache Desai, and producing events in Chicago with transformational leaders such as Gregg Braden, Sonia Choquette and Gabby Bernstein. I’ve been able to work with others by helping with marketing and promotions too, all while growing PF. What better way to help inspire others than to help other inspirational people?! (And by the way, every person is an inspirational person by simply living their truth).
For the next week I invite you to live your big picture of fulfilling work, optimum health and an amazing partner to share life with by:
Career/Finances: What does fulfilling work feel like and what does it look to you? What do healthy finances feel and look like? Make that your big picture vision. It’s absolutely okay to have a clear vision of the work you are passionate about and yet allow it to show up in miraculous ways. When you begin feeling stuck, return to your ‘why’ you do what you do. Challenges such as job rejections, not receiving the promotion, or seemingly slower progress in your business will begin to be seen as part of the path rather than a block on the path.
Health: What does having ultimate health feel like and how does it look to you? What would you do differently today if you were in perfect health? Get into that feeling-place of what that means to you, not what it means to society, since only you know what your ultimate health looks and feels like. When you feel as though you are slipping back, return to your ‘why’ you want ultimate health. Knowing your ‘why’ will allow you to be gentle with yourself during perceived setbacks and, more importantly, to reframe them as stepping-stones to your big picture.
Relationship: What does it feel like and how does it look to be in the most amazing relationship? A relationship that defies all odds? List out the qualities this person has and get into that feeling-place of what that feels like and looks like to you. Then if and when a relationship isn’t working out, rather than feeling dejected, return to the ‘why’ you want this ultimate relationship and move forward in that feeling-place. See each experience, the ‘good’ and the ‘bad’ as a chance to redefine and hone your desires, rather seeing it as another failed attempt.
Mostly, my wish for you is that you know that it is okay to be wherever you are, whether your life is currently over-the-top amazing or you are struggling, or most likely somewhere in the middle. I encourage you return to the ‘why’ you want fulfilling work; ‘why’ you want optimal health and ‘why’ you want that someone special to go through life with. Every experience is an opportunity to enhance your life. Know that you are worthy of living a life filled with deeper love, laughter and happiness.
Until next time, DREAM BIG!
I am focused on living the highest and biggest vision of myself.
