What Came First?

I’m sure you have all heard the question, what came first, the chicken or the egg, right? I actually think about a similar question, what comes first, the thought or the action? In all honestly, I one million percent believe it’s the thought that creates the action, yet on occasion I struggle with it personally. Those feelings came up recently at an expo I exhibited at for the very first time.  What comes first the people? Or the thought of the people?

I am often responsible for managing tradeshows and not exhibiting in them. It was a last minute opportunity that I simply couldn’t turn down as it gave me a chance to share about Positive Focus, Positive Focus Productions and share free hugs. It gave me the opportunity to let people know YOU MATTER, which at the end of the day is what PF is all about.  I brought some PF bracelets, You Matter cards, and sign up forms, a smile and open arms for hugging. I quickly felt unprepared as I was around booths that were beautifully thought out and people who knew the spiel of getting people to stop and talk to them. Why would people stop at my booth without a big sign saying who I was and what I did when there were fancy booths surrounding me with at least two people manning their booth at any given time? This feeling was very familiar to me as I’ve felt it at free hugs when I’m the first one there. I often say that people stop for hugs when there are more of us there than just one person. True? Maybe.  But in both instances I stepped into fear rather than faith. Faith would tell me regardless if it’s 1 or 100 people the right people will be there at the right time in the right moment. In essence fear said you need others here to be seen.

So it doesn’t really matter if the chicken created the egg or the egg created the chicken. What matters are the thought and the feeling that creates the action or the experience. It’s all about staying in a space of feeling good.

For the next week, I invite you to create your experiences by:

Loving this very moment however it turns out. When you are able to stand in a space of love the need for others approval dissipates.

Knowing it’s not only okay but it’s good to step out of your comfort zone as it allows you to grow and discover.

Mostly my wish for you is to know in every moment of every day your thoughts and feelings are what decide if an experience is good or bad. You have the ability to step forward in faith or be held back in fear. You get to choose love over fear, kindness over cruelty, abundance over lack, and peace over conflict.

Until next time, be thoughtful and shine!
