shutterstock_114543451Welcome to day 334 of 2015, well that is if you are in the Midwest like I am, as my Australian readers are on day 335. We are given 365 days a year and we tend to give special credence to certain days – such as birthdays, anniversaries and major holidays. We look forward to them, plan for them and celebrate them. When one ends, we are looking forward to the next. Do you have a favorite holiday?

I have favorites for different reasons – the 4th of July because its summer, I love the sun, warmth, sailing and I adore fireworks! I love Thanksgiving as it brings my full focus on what I am grateful for in my life and it’s time spent with family. Then there is my birthday, which was yesterday. It’s a chance to look back and give my thanks while getting excited about the upcoming 365. Gifts are nice and appreciated, but my favorite part of my birthday is hearing from family and friends via calls, texts, emails and the hundreds of Facebook messages that I receive as each one truly warms my heart.

And let us not forget New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day as they are also special days for me to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. NYE could be a house party, going out on the town, or staying in with a few friends and movies. It’s more about reflection and celebration on the year nearly gone and the excited anticipation of the year ahead.

As I closed out my 2015 birthday I realized that every day is special, or should be considered special. I do focus on daily gratitude and it’s truly very easy as I’ve practiced it for several years. I walk outside and see beauty in a tree and say hello. I notice the smiles of people walking by. I look for things to be grateful for. When I’m dealing with a time of struggle, it may take a little bit more work to find the gratitude, but it’s absolutely there and knowing that to be true allows the struggle to dissolve much quicker.

So as you go about your day 334, I encourage you to enjoy each day by:

Starting your day in gratitude. Before you even get out of bed think, speak or write about things you are grateful for.

Starting your day saying ‘today is going to be a good day and I’m excited to see how it unfolds” or something similar. You get to set the tone for the day on complaining about going to work or about being excited for the miracles that are unfolding. Treat it special as in 24 hours it will be gone.

Looking for things to appreciate and saying thank you for them. Go on a gratitude walk with a pad of paper and a pen and write down things that catch your eye that make you smile.

Share a smile, a kind word or a kind action as a quick way to appreciate each day is to help bring joy to someone else’s day.

End your day in gratitude for the people in your life or the people you are attracting into your life. There is always things to be grateful for, so give them attention.

Mostly my wish is for you to see each day as worthy of greater love, laughter and happiness than you’ve ever known before. Don’t wait for a special day of the year to celebrate you, to celebrate others and celebrate life. Today is the day to live bolder, love deeper, laugh more often, hug longer and smile bigger.
