They Say It’s My Birthday

shutterstock_300296144They say it’s my birthday and it is!! Well, right now it’s the 28th, so a few more hours until my birthday on the 29th. I’ve already started receiving birthday greetings on Facebook and I love looking at their well wishes along with thinking about them and sending it back to them. I try to always send a birthday greeting to my friends on Facebook, yes even the people I truly don’t know but we are connected on Facebook just as a quick way to let them know they matter. I send this image I created. Its a simple reminder to cherish every moment of life – including the ‘why is this happening’ moments. Life is beautifully messy and I’d have to say this past year around the sun for happy-birthdayme has been filled with lots of love and magic…and yes, contrast to remind me to stay focused on what I want in my life.

I am reminded that truly every day is a birth day as we can start fresh with a renewed focus on love, kindness, and compassion. We can be reminded that at any given moment someone is taking their first breath while someone else is taking their last. That someone is hearing ‘I love you’ for the first time while someone else has finalized their divorce. Someone is celebrating a new job or a promotion while another is saddened about being fired or laid off.

It’s within the journey around the sun that when we stop for a moment and simply take a moment to be grateful for the love, for the laughter, for the fun, for the celebrations, and yes also for the tears, for the hurt, for the uncertainty, that is where life is truly lived. Moment by moment in it’s messy glory.

Moving forward and for my birthday, I invite you to join me in spreading love by…

Stepping out of your comfort zone and doing something different today. I’d love to hear what you choose to do.

Think of all the people in your life that you love and send them love.

Think about the people you are at odds with and send them love.

Do an intentional kind act – share your smile, offer a hug, a kind word, hold a door open, etc.

Take in the world from the eyes of a young child and see it for the first time.

Say THANK YOU as many times as you can.

Be courageous and shine your light brightly – even if it scares you

Do something kind for yourself each day this week, I know I am.

Mostly, my wish for you is to remember that you are priceless and life is precious. Please join me in that.

Big hugs and much love,

Carol

PS – My day will be spent taking in the sunrise at Lake Michigan, followed by a little work, possibly being bold and doing free hugs by myself downtown, and then off to the burbs to see the holiday lights with a good friend at Illumination. Shine your light my amazing friends, shine your light.

Affirmation:

I will be loving, kind, and compassionate each day.
